Southern European Interprofessional Education Network

The Southern European Interprofessional Education Network (SE-IPEN) is a dedicated community of practice focused on advancing interprofessional education (IPE) across Southern Europe. Recognizing the region’s unique cultural, educational, and healthcare dynamics, SE-IPEN aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and sustainable solutions tailored to local needs. By connecting educators, practitioners, and researchers, we strive to address regional challenges, share best practices, and contribute to the global.

Aims of the SE-IPEN Network

  1. Foster Regional Collaboration to Address Unique Challenges
Strengthen partnerships among healthcare and education professionals across Southern Europe, addressing shared challenges such as resource limitations, workforce mobility, and varying healthcare system structures.
  2. Promote Culturally Tailored Innovation in IPE
Develop innovative interprofessional education solutions that respect and incorporate the diverse cultural, linguistic, and societal contexts of Southern Europe.
  3. Advance Cross-Border Collaboration
Leverage the cultural diversity and geographic proximity of Southern Europe to promote cross-border educational initiatives and professional exchange, enhancing collaboration in a regional context.
  4. Promote the Value of IPE on a Global Scale
Advocate for Southern Europe’s contributions to interprofessional education by showcasing regional innovations and successes on international platforms, fostering global partnerships and raising awareness about the importance of IPE worldwide.

2025 – 2027 Priorities

  • Membership Expansion: As a newly emerging network our main priority is to expand our membership base within southern Europe to ensure that all everyone involved with IPE within the region can become an active part of our network.
  • Political Buy-In: We would like to see IPE given more support on a political level. Our aim is to build bridges with policy actors as part of a process of gaining more recognition for IPE within a region that historically has had little engagement with IPE as a concept.
  • Regional Promotion: We will promote IPE within our region while also showcasing the work of our members to a wider, international audience.
